National Truck Driving Championships 2023
The National Truck Driving Championships are hosted annually by the American Trucking Associations to provide professional truck drivers with a platform to showcase their skills, knowledge, and professionalism. Every contestant competing in the NTDC must be accident-free for a minimum of one year in order to compete, which promotes safe driving habits, instills professional pride, and in turn increases commitment and retention.
Gary Amoth Trucking proudly competed in the 2023 ITA Truck Driver Championship held in Meridian, Idaho. Being a part of this annual event was an honor to us. Our group of skilled drivers participated in the written exam and pre-trip inspection and showcased their driving abilities through a series of challenging courses. Additionally, we had company volunteers assisting with the course set-up and judging. We were also pleased to provide competition trucks, trailers, and a curtain van for an announcement/awards platform. As well, we co-sponsored lunch for contestants and volunteers.
The competition comprises several tests, including a multiple-choice written exam, pre-trip inspection, and the most exciting skills test. The skills test consists of truckers maneuvering through slow-speed rodeo-like courses to display their skills. Drivers can compete in several equipment categories. Categories include; straight trucks, three-axle, four-axle, and five-axle tractor-semitrailers, sleeper berths, tank trucks, flatbeds, twin trailers, and step vans. We are very proud to say our own Chris Markley placed third in the five-axle tractor-semitrailer competition!
We congratulate all the Idaho 1st place winners as they are qualified to participate on the national stage held in Columbus, Ohio on August 16th thru 19th 2023. The event left us eager to prepare for next year’s competition, and we look forward to competing in 2024!
